In the history of the NHL there have only been 90 players to hit the 1,000 career point mark and two players joined the exclusive list this season.

Patrick Kane was the most recent player to hit the 1,000-point plateau, but the first person to do it this season was Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal, who accomplished the feat last month.

On Wednesday night, the Wild hosted the Detroit Red Wings in their final game before the NHL All-Star break and they honoured the Thunder Bay, Ontario native with a special pregame ceremony.

The Wild put together a special video tribute for Staal and his family, before presenting the six-time NHL All-Star with a special stick and gifts for his children.

Staal entered Wednesday night’s contest with 108 goals and 229 points in 294 games as a member of the Wild, and 1,010 points in 1,223 career games.
