Stats can help you tell what type of player a person is on the ice, but they can’t really help you tell what type of person the player is away from the ice. That’s not the case for Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner, though.

Just by looking at Marner’s year-to-year stats dating back to his OHL rookie season with the London Knights you can tell that he’s always been a generous player and person.

Now that Marner has built a name for himself at the NHL level he’s taking things to the next step as he’s not just setting up his teammates for success, but young aspiring hockey players, as well. Through the Marner Assist Fund, the Markham, Ontario native is helping the Rez Girls 64 hockey team raise money to renovate and improve their local rink.

There was a GoFundMe started three months ago hoping to raise $90,000 and has raised nearly $64,000 through donations from almost 700 people. However, there’s a chance they’ll hit that goal in the next little while thanks to the online support from Marner, as well as the fact that his charity is going to match up to $5,000.

Marner has really been in the giving mood as of late as last week he surprised a local youth hockey team with a set of brand new sticks.

Through 48 games Marner sits 9th in the entire league with 61 points and eighth in the league in total assists with 42.
