One of the big stories around the NHL right now is the punishment of Connor McDavid, who delivered a late and high hit to Montreal Canadiens forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi. While many fans lobbied for a suspension, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that McDavid would instead be fined $5,000 – the maximum allowed under the CBA.

Now there may be another debate brewing around a different NHL star.

Colorado Avalanche star Nate MacKinnon received a very unique 10-minute misconduct on Wednesday after tossing Conor Garland’s helmet back at him after ripping it off in a skirmish. The helmet appears to strike Garland around the head/face area before the two engaged in another physical altercation.

While the toss was evidentally pretty light, it’s the point of contact that will certainly have the suspension birds chirping. We’ll have to see whether there’s supplementary action taken by the league, but for now we can all just enjoy this…
