We're only two years removed from Eli Manning's ironman streak coming to an emotional close. Beginning in November of 2004, when all of this stuff was happening, Eli managed to start every game for the G-Men - a whopping 210 consecutive regular season contests - while racking up the longest active ironman streak at the time.

He didn't miss the start because of an injury, he got benched by coach Ben McAdoo in favour of Geno Smith

The football world was up in arms. With the Giants season a lost cause as it were, fans didn't appreciate the starting duty being stripped from their two time Super Bowl MVP, especially since it meant the end of an extremely long ironman streak.

Now a much shorter streak, Manning has once again been dealt a ticket to the pine. This time it's not Geno Smith taking the spot start, it's Daniel Jones making his case for a permanent fixture atop the Giants' QB depth chart.

As was the case during his first benching, the New York tabloids dealt out some puns in regards to the announcement.

Eli got pretty emotional the first time he was benched, and while it may not be the end of an ironman streak, this most recent one may be even tougher. There's something a little more permanent feeling about this one, as Manning continues to fizzle out under centre.

Some fans weren't happy with the tabloids, referring to it as shameless and petty. Hard to make Eli the butt of the joke when he brought two Super Bowls to town.
