He’s back! After going unsigned to start the season, Patrick Marleau will return to his old stomping grounds in San Jose.

According to @ddreger2016, it’s a one-year deal for $700k.🦈

An interesting quirk: Although news broke that Marleau had agreed to sign with the Sharks on Tuesday afternoon, he didn’t officially put pen to paper until Wednesday — after the Sharks’ Tuesday night game.

Because he wasn’t under contract for that one or any of the other games he “missed” to begin the season, it means Marleau’s iron man streak of 788 straight games played remains active, and it’ll become 789 with his Sharks debut on Thursday.

Although he wasn’t able to latch on with a team any earlier than now, it’s nice that things work out in order to keep his streak alive. In the grand scheme of things, these little statistical fun facts don’t really matter that much, but Marleau's streak ranks 6th all-time and you’d hate to see it end on a technicality like free agency timing.

The 40-year-old is already getting ready to go with his new-again team, and it sure is going to be special when he hits the ice in Sharks teal again.
