Since 1990, Jaromir Jagr has been dominating the sport of hockey for our enjoyment, and the last few years of his career have actually been some of the most enjoyable to watch due to the fact that he was so productive in his 40s.

This season, though, things didn't go as planned for Jagr or the Flames and it led to them putting the future Hall of Famer on waivers.

#JaromirJagr has cleared waivers and is expected to finish out the season in Europe

A post shared by TSN (@tsn_official) on

Jagr is back in Europe and will presumably finish the season with his hometown team, which is unfortunate for a few reasons.  Obviously everyone wants Jagr in the NHL still, but more importantly, everyone wanted to see him play 38 more games to pass Howe for the most all-time.

Unless something changes and the Flames bring him back, it doesn't seem like Jagr will get another chance to break that record.  Furthermore, with Jaromir out of the NHL, there are only five players left from the 90's still playing right now.

Obviously Jagr is no longer on the list, but the five players from the 90's still kicking are Patrick Marleau, Zdeno Chara, Matt Cullen, Joe Thornton, and Roberto Luongo (who is out at the moment with an injury, but should be back in February).

The list is seven players if you include Marian Hossa and Michal Rozsival, but both players are on LTIR, so we decided to leave them out of the group as they currently aren't playing.

At this point, we're still holding out hope that Jagr can return and play forever so there will always be a player from the 90's in the NHL, but that's not going to happen, so it's up to these players to keep that torch burning bright.
