Friday night was a special one for Martin St. Louis as his number was retired by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

St. Louis spent the majority of his career with the Lightning and he won his only Stanley Cup in Tampa in 2004 when he beat his former team, the Calgary Flames.

For a player who was told multiple times he was too small and would never make it in the NHL, what St. Louis accomplished in his career is nothing short of tremendous.

Ahead of his jersey being retired, speeches were given, and because the Lightning were playing the Blue Jackets, former Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella was in the building and delivered a speech.

Of course, Tortorella started his speech with a great joke that had the entire arena laughing.

What a wonderful joke and speech from Tortorella.  He's absolutely right about St. Louis' story being applied to all walks of life.

If you have a dream and a willingness to make that dream a reality, nothing will stop you, no matter how many times you may get knocked down along the way.

During the ceremony and after the game, many players took to social media to congratulate St. Louis on the incredible accomplishment.

Congrats Marty on an incredible career.  It was a pleasure watching you play and inspire every hockey fan out there along the way.
