If you thought that the Fortnite craze couldn’t possibly be taken any further, think again. In Ohio, Ashland University is offering $4,000 scholarships to Fortnite players who are talented enough to make its eSports program, becoming the first school to do so. Surely, more schools are bound to follow.

In April, the school announced the open applications for its Fortnite team, and this week, ESPN reported the team’s first signing:

For those unaware, the competitive gaming industry known as eSports has been on the rise over the last few years, with games such as League of Legends and Rocket League becoming popular (and financially viable) platforms for high-level play, but those games, of course, haven’t resonated in the culture among both hardcore and casual players in the way that Fortnite has.

Basically, it looks like there are about to be many, many more opportunities to get paid to play Fortnite... if you’re good enough. Better step your game up if that sounds at all appealing, though, because it sure will appeal to many others.
