A lot of people questioned if Leon Draisaitl would be able to lead the Edmonton Oilers on his own when Connor McDavid went down with an injury, but the 24-year-old has done nothing but succeed this year, regardless of who’s in or out of the lineup.

On Monday night the Oilers paid a visit to the Nashville Predators. Late in the opening period Draisaitl buried his 40th goal of the season to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead at intermission. After the second period the teams were locked at 3-3, but in the third period it turned into the Draisaitl Show.

After McDavid put Edmonton ahead 4:42 into the third period, Draisaitl followed that up by scoring his second of the night about 30 seconds later, and then scored two more before the midway point of the period to give him four goals on the night and a hat trick in less than 5 minutes in the third period.

Oilers fans are used to seeing this type of dominant play from Draisaitl, but that didn’t stop them from showing the man with back-to-back 100+ point seasons some love.

Last year Draisaitl scored 50 goals and 55 assists for 105 points in 82 games. This season he’s already up to 43 goals and 64 assists for 107 points in 66 games.
