Cooper Marody was selected 158th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft but went on to spend the next three seasons at the University of Michigan. However, before he got a chance to suit up for the Flyers franchise, Marody’s rights were traded to the Edmonton Oilers earlier this year.

On Tuesday night, the 21-year-old slotted into the Oilers’ lineup for their home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and his teammates made sure to give him the proper rookie treatment leading up to puck drop.

It’s one of the traditions in hockey we’ll never get sick of, and we’re sure the rookies get a little kick out of taking their first NHL pre-game skate on their own.

Marody has played eight games with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors since his rights were acquired by Edmonton and he scored three goals and added six assists for nine points. In 90 games at the University of Michigan, the Brighton, Michigan native scored 31 goals and added 59 assists for 90 points.
