After a quick 19 days, the Winter Olympics are finally coming to an end.

The Games marked the most successful outcome in Canadian history, as the country managed to set a new record for itself with 29 total medals.

One of the final events in Pyeongchang was the Men’s Hockey final, where the Olympic Athletes of Russia managed to defeat Germany in a stunning 4-3 victory. Canada didn’t get the result they were hoping for, but still managed to contribute to the country’s medal count with a Bronze medal win over the Czech Republic.

Following the tournament, awards were handed out and a Canadian managed to crack the list. Defenceman Maxim Noreau was one of five players named to the All-Star lineup, along with defenceman Slava Voynov (OAR), Ilya Kovalchuk (OAR), Pavel Datsyuk (OAR) and Eeli Tolvanen (FIN). German goaltender Danny aus den Birken was named the best goaltender, while OAR’s Nikita Gusev was named the best forward. Voynov was named the tournament's best defenceman and Kovalchuk was ultimately named the most valuable player.

Noreau was a pillar for Canada, racking up two goals and five assists, and helping the country hold its opponent to two goals or less in four out of their six games. The 30-year-old currently plays for Bern SC of the Swiss-A league where he has racked up 8 goals and 16 assists in just 30 games. Noreau played in six games with the Minnesota Wild before making his way to Switzerland.

Drew Doughty was the only Canadian named to the last Olympic roster in 2014, so it’s nice to see Noreau was able to continue the country’s trend. Perhaps the Montreal native’s performance opened some NHL scouts’ eyes looking to add a veteran blueliner to their roster.
