Alex Ovechkin isn’t a fighter, he even says so himself. He’s as tough as they come, he’s bruising, and he’s certainly intimidating on the ice. He’s not a fighter, though.

That doesn’t mean he can’t. He’s gotten in a few fights before, but none were quite as dramatic as his scrap with Andrei Svechnikov, Carolina’s young talent.

 

 

Svechnikov left that game and did not return, and it’s certainly possible that he misses even more time after appearing to be knocked unconscious by Ovi’s right fist. After the game, Ovi responded to the incident and sounded remorseful towards his fellow Russian.

 

 

Not what anyone wanted. While the playoffs are intense, and tensions are high, it’s another nod to the risks of fisticuffs.
