For the first time in 14 years, we are going to be seeing Zdeno Chara NOT in a Bruins jersey. Weird, right?

It’s been pretty hard to picture it, so just imagine what it’s going to be like on Thursday when the Washington Capitals open up their season against the Buffalo Sabres. Well, it looks like we’re not the only ones that aren’t used to it yet. Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin is still pretty surprised too!

During training camp, Ovechkin shared his thoughts to the media about the Caps signing Chara to a one-year deal.

“Obviously, you know if someone tell me two or three years ago I’m gonna play with Lundqvist on one team and Chara on another team, I would say, ‘Are you guys crazy?'”

While Henrik Lundqvist is unfortunately out of this NHL season with a heart condition, Ovi will still get the opportunity to play with the 6’10” power defenceman. With Chara’s 22 years of experience in the NHL to go along with Ovechkin’s 17, it sounds like a recipe for success.

From long time rivals to teammates! We can’t wait to see what these two get going on the ice together.
