Alexander Ovechkin is impossible not to root for. The joy in basically everything he has done since beating the Penguins and now beating the Lightning is infectious and it’s making the Final that much more exciting.

He’s enjoying every moment of this run and that’s probably part of the reason he decided to touch the Prince of Wales trophy.

There is a weird superstition in the NHL where some teams choose not to touch the trophy because it is not the one they’re really after. Many players have ignored this tradition over the years, but Ovechkin has taken it to a whole new level. From what we understand, he basically didn’t let it go until he got home and put it on his kitchen table.

That’s quite a journey for the Prince of Wales trophy. It’s been around for 92 years, but we’re not sure it has experienced anything like last night.
