Alex Ovechkin has advanced to the Stanley Cup Final. We repeat: Alex Ovechkin has advanced to the Stanley Cup Final!

The Washington Capitals officially punched their ticket to hockey’s big dance with a 4-0 victory in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ovechkin contributed to the victory with a goal to advance his total to 12 in the postseason. The caps will now square off against the Vegas Golden Knights for eternal glory.

Ovechkin and the Capitals’ recent playoff failures have been well documented. Washington had failed to reach the third round in the Ovy era until this season after numerous losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the past. So naturally, the Russian was elated after reaching the fourth and final round for the first time. In a postgame interview with Pierre McGuire, Ovechkin yelled the most fitting word possible.

Ovechkin hasn’t had much championship success in the past, so this year should be especially sweet. The 32-year-old has failed to even medal at past Olympic experiences and has routinely been referred to as a choker in crunch time.

For the first time in 20 years, the #Caps are off to the Stanley Cup Final.

Whether they win or not, his current run will only add wonders to his Hall of Fame career.

… Finally.
