Patrik Laine is the best. Whether you’re a Jets fan or not, you have to be able to appreciate Laine’s jokes off the ice.

In a league where players are constantly ridiculed for their generic answers for post-game interviews, Laine always seems to have something interesting to say.  The latest is about goals vs. assists, a topic that came up because Laine almost doubled his assist totals yesterday. Laine started out his answer with a pretty candid “I don’t care about assists”.

It’s hard to say if he actually doesn’t care about assists or if he’s just saying that he doesn’t care about points and they’ll come when they come. Either way, he follow that up with by answering the question “But a nice assist doesn’t feel as good as a goal?” by saying “No. No. Never.”

Jokes or not, this is legendary. Of course the lesson that you always want to teach kids and hockey players is that an assist is a good as a goal, but when you get to the big leagues, if you want to be an elite goal scorer, you have to want to put the biscuit in the basket.

Laine also does say that he thinks he is an underrated passer, but the man just loves to score goals. They don’t call him Hat Trick Laine for nothing.
