The Nike Air Monarch IV is the king of 'Dad Shoes.' In fact, the Nike runners -- which are a sort of dubious classic -- practically invented the genre.

The shoe may not be a looker, but the Monarch has consistently been one of the Swoosh brand's top selling shoes. Despite their popularity among consumers, not a whole lot of athletes wear the Air Monarchs. But Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll sure loves to roam the sidelines in them.

Back in January, Nike created a special player edition of the Monarch IV for Carroll to wear. On top of featuring the Seahawks' green and navy colour combo, the shoe also features Carroll's team slogan, "Always Compete." The shoe was never meant to be sold at retail, but someone is currently selling a sample of the PE Monarch 4 on eBay for big money: $3500 U.S. to be exact.

That's right, a shoe that traditionally sells for $55 is being resold for thousands because it's a rare sample. As much as we like cool sports memorabilia, we're not quite sure a shoe like this warrants such a price tag, no matter how rare it is. It's not even like Carroll has worn them himself.

We will have to say that's a definite 'Drop.'
