This past weekend at the U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson purposely hit his ball again while it was rolling after he missed a putt on the 13th hole.

In the moment, observers couldn't figure out why Mickelson decided to do such a thing, especially since it led to a two-stroke penalty and a 10 on the hole, but after the round Phil admitted he had been thinking of doing what he did for a while.

Mickelson's comments were met with backlash from the golf world and on Wednesday morning, Phil actually reached out to a few reporters to apologize for his actions.

Some people will read this apology and actually be upset that Mickelson apologized for doing what he did because to some, it wasn't a big deal.

To others, though, it was a very big deal, so much so that people wanted him to withdraw from the tournament, which he actually offered to do.

Ultimately, he didn't withdraw and finished the tournament.

He's now apologized, too, so hopefully those people upset by what Phil did will at the very least appreciate the apology so he and everyone else can move on as the British Open is a month away.
