Last week, we told you about the new series we're launching here at BarDown, titled Puck Tales.

If you missed out on it, we're taking submissions about the craziest and most amusing hockey stories you may have from years of playing the game, and then writing an article on them, like the one below. Whether it's beer league, competitive, house or minor hockey, we want you to share them with us.

A week has passed since dropping the introductory post, and after a number of submissions, we're going to start of Chapter 1 in our series with an entry about a player shutting up a trash talker's trap in quite the hurry.

This comes from Doug in Gananoque, Ontario, who provided us with a legendary story on an unorthodox technique one of his teammates used to silence a chirper in his beer league.

"So, here we are on a nice cold Monday night beer league game against a team we have always had a good tilt against. To say it nicely, we both have a couple guys on each team that are a 'little competitive'!

Anyways here we go...He runs into to the d-man in the opponent's corner digging for the puck and they start chirping a bit as some stick work starts.  One thing leads to another and my teammate follows him to their bench as they continue to chirp. The opponent has a seat on his bench and we thought it was over.

Then the chirp starts back up while the play starts, my teammate decides to head over to the bench to pay a visit. Little did we think he would quietly open up the door to their bench and have a seat beside the guy after he invited him over. (Chirping stopped abruptly).

My teammate said “got nothing to say now do you”, as we all stared at them thinking what’s next.

Our opponent declined the offer and my teammate was escorted to the dressing room and suspended 5 games.

Out of 35 years of playing hockey, I have never seen a player take the invite to sit on the opponent's bench and do it without hesitation.  We often laugh about this moment and these are the things you treasure in the ‘beer league’!”

Could you imagine the look on the trash talker's face when that guy came over and sat next to him on the bench? That guy must've been one intimidating dude. We applaud him for not engaging in an actual fight because at the end of the day, fighting in beer league is pretty foolish.

But coming up with an unorthodox way to shut a guy up in a non-violent manner deserves some recognition. Way to hold your cool, Doug's teammate.
