The Kansas Jayhawks band welcomed a legendary drummer to assist them during the Jayhawks’s 65-61 win over the No. 4 ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday in the Champions Classic.

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith was in the house to get fans amped up for the return of college basketball.  Smith lit up the drum set and played to Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” along with the horn section during a timeout.

That was pretty rad. Smith was born in Minnesota, and supports Michigan, but you wouldn’t know it with the “KU” hat he was wearing.

The Jayhawks are currently ranked third in the country.
