The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, so it’s no surprise that the benches cleared in just their second matchup of the young season, one night after the Yankees got crushed 14-1 in the opening game on Tuesday.

The two sides got into it early on the game when Tyler Austin’s spikes clipped Brock Holt’s leg when he was sliding into second base, but it wasn’t until the seventh inning when things really got out of hand.

With Austin up to bat for the Yankees in the top of the seventh inning, Red Sox relief pitcher Joe Kelly delivered a pitch that wasn’t even close to the plate and it ended up smoking Austin right in the back. Rather than shaking it off and stepping back into the batter’s box, the 26-year-old decided to take matters into his own hands and stormed the mound, which resulted in both benches clearing.
