On Sunday night, New York Islanders goalie Robin Lehner received a very touching video message on Twitter from a 7-year-old Islanders fan named Jack. In his video, Jack tells Mr. Lehner how he’s already survived three open heart surgeries and has already proven many people wrong by playing hockey, something he was told he’d never be able to do since he was born with half a heart, and wanted to know if the Islanders’ netminder would be so kind and give him one of his sticks.

Well, the message was received loud and clear by Lehner, who responded to the young fan’s video almost immediately.

Jack was in attendance for the Islanders’ tilt with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night and he ended up getting a lot more than just a stick from his favourite player. Not only did Lehner send Jack home with one of his sticks, as promised, he also made sure to hook up the youngster with a meet and greet after the game and they shared an awesome moment.

This is truly what it’s all about as Lehner reminds us that there’s more to life than sports and that at the end of the day they’re just playing a game.
