The Ottawa Senators struck gold with the 178th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft as they used the pick to select Brandon Wheat Kings forward Mark Stone.

However, sometimes coming up with a late round steal hurts down the road when the big pay day comes, so as a result the Senators ended up trading Mark Stone to the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2019 trade deadline.

On Thursday night, Stone made his first trip back to Ottawa since he was dealt to the Golden Knights and Senators fans welcomed him back with open arms and a lengthy standing ovation.

The standing ovation from the crowd and the salute from Stone all came after the team played a video tribute for the former Sens forward.

Somehow Stone managed to drop to the 6th round of the draft, despite coming off a season where he scored 41 goals and 123 points in 66 games – good for second most points in the WHL – and it didn’t take him very long to make an impact at the highest level. In 366 games with Ottawa, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native scored 123 goals and 311 points, and also contributed five goals and 13 points in 27 playoff games.
