Shane Doan might be one of the most respected athletes, past or present, in all of Arizona and across the NHL, and rightfully so.
The Halkirk, Alberta native was selected 7th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft and played just one season in Winnipeg before the team moved to Phoenix. Doan stayed loyal to the franchise that gave him his first shot and never jumped ship his entire career, as he played 1,540 NHL games over 21 years and set just about every Coyotes offensive franchise record along the way.
This past weekend, WM Phoenix Open Chairman Tim Woods announced that Doan will become the first NHL player to ever play in the WM Phoenix Open Pro-Am and he’ll have a familiar face caddying for him.
The Coyotes’ all-time leader in games played, goals, assists and points will be the first NHL player, past or present, to play in the tournament, and he’ll have Paul Bissonnette as his caddy for the day.
Bissonnette and Doan were teammates from 2009-2014, so they should have some chemistry right off the bat.
