It’s the classic sports bet. Two players of different nationalities make a wager based on their national teams squaring off. The payout is almost always the same, dawning the other team’s jersey.

Even though everyone knew what it was for, B.C. native Shea Weber did not look happy when he lost his bet to Finnish winger Artturi Lehkonen, a teammate of Weber’s.  As you’ve probably guessed by this point, the bet had to do with the Canada-Finland quarterfinal matchup from the 2018-19 World Juniors that saw Canada lose in extremely heartbreaking fashion.

Though he wasn’t happy about it, Weber was a good sport.

 

A bet is a bet. Oh well, at least Weber won the Gold for Canada at the 2005 World Juniors! Of course, so did Lehkonen back in 2014…
