While Wednesday was the date everyone had circled on their calendars around the NHL, the day AFTER the expansion draft was nearly as hectic. Trades and signings were happening all over the league as teams dealt with the fallout of Seattle’s expansion.

One of the most talked about trades came from Detroit and Carolina, who struck a deal that sent breakout goalie Alex Nedeljkovic to the Wings in exchange for a 3rd round pick and the rights to Jonathan Bernier. The Wings then signed Nedeljkovic to a two-year contract with an AAV of just $3 million.

‘Canes fans were not happy, and the rest of the hockey world was left wondering how Wings’ GM Steve Yzerman scored that deal.

Apparently, even Stevie Y himself didn’t have the answers.

Uhhh… was that a subtle jab at the ‘Canes? Some fans seem to think so.

Maybe it was just said in the way that he can’t speak for their mindset, but it sounds almost as though he was saying it in a way that he couldn’t understand their thinking in making that deal. Some of it comes down to the cadence of his answer, so let’s listen in:

Whether or not it was an intentional jab, we may not know. A lot of the hockey world seemed to be on board Yzerman in the sense, though.

But then there’s the other side, too…
