The MLB Draft is unlike any other draft as it takes place during the season and consists of 40 rounds over a three-day span.

One of the many kids who had their dream become reality on the opening night of the draft is Stanford University’s Kyle Stowers, who was selected 71st overall by the Baltimore Orioles. However, Stanford had a NCAA Regionals matchup against Fresno State on Monday night so Stowers was unable to watch the draft, which resulted in him finding out the good news in an odd way.

Stanford coach David Esquer ended up sharing the great news with the junior outfielder while he was in the on-deck circle and the rest of his teammates put the game on hold for a second to congratulate Stowers.

In 45 games this season, the El Cajon, California native has 7 home runs and 30 RBI to go with 10 stolen bases and a .293 batting average. Last year, Stowers hit 10 home runs and 42 RBI and stole six bases while hitting .286 in 58 games.
