On Tuesday, the world learned of yet another mass shooting out of the United States. Suspected gunman Salvador Ramos – an 18-year-old who reportedly bought the guns legally – opened fire in an elementary school, killing 21 people, including 19 children.

In the wake of the devastating news, an all-too-familiar outcry from gun law reform swept across the nation.

From the sports world, two of the most powerful messages came from the NBA in the middle of the Conference Finals.

During Tuesday’s broadcast for Game 4 matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks, NBA on TNT analyst and former NBA star Charles Barkley spoke out against the politics that have stood in the way of proper gun law reform, and questions what it is that makes young people angry enough to open fire.

Ahead of the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr began his presser by announcing he would not be talking about basketball. He went on to deliver an impassioned message in which he calls out politicians for putting their agendas of keeping power ahead of keeping people safe.

These were just two of many messages to flood in from all corners of the sports world. Regardless of political stance, we can all agree that two mass shootings within the span of 10 days is  a sign that something needs to change.
