P.K. Subban is not afraid to speak his mind and on Sunday he was asked about what is one of the most polarizing MVP debates in recent NHL seasons.

While Connor McDavid led the league in points once again, he does not seem to be the favourite to win the Hart trophy. Most people are siding against McDavid because his team did not even come close to making the playoffs. The name that most people are going with is Nathan MacKinnon. He only scored 0.01 fewer points-per-game than McDavid and he basically carried his team into the playoffs.

Subban agrees with that assessment, but he decided to take his prediction a step further. In an explanation of what he said to MacKinnon in their extended moment in the handshake line, he said he believes MacKinnon is a future hall of famer.

This was a breakout season for MacKinnon who hadn’t really come close to putting up a point-per-game before in his career. Several people probably thought MacKinnon was on the path to the hall of fame after his first season, but after failing to put up more than 53 points in the three years, some of the hype died down.

If he’s able to carry his performance from this year into next seasons, the Colorado Avalanche should become playoff contenders for the considerable future.
