He’s back.

While we know that the Philadelphia Flyers and the rest of the NHL were greenlit for a season start on January 13th, some of the particulars were still unknown — such as, will Gritty be allowed in the Wells Fargo Center this season? Is Gritty an essential worker?

He’s essential to the heart and soul of the Flyers, at least, and Kevin Hayes went as far as saying he would only play this season if Gritty was there.

Hayes’ lobbying efforts paid off! Gritty is officially in for 2020-21.

We don’t know what a mascot’s job responsibilities look like when the stands are emptier than usual, but if there’s one thing we can be certain of, it’s that Gritty will get up to something regardless of who and how many he’s entertaining. If anything, we might be entering even more unhinged territory with emptier stands.

We can’t wait.
