Years after Colin Kaepernick took a knee to protest during the national anthem, his former team is expressing their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Roger Goodell and the NFL have apologized for failing to listen to the messages behind previous protests and encouraged players this season to continue them, while making commitments to support social justice initiatives for years to come.

The 49ers have done the same, pledging to donate $1 million shortly after the murder of George Floyd.
