In case you didn't see this tweet, someone pointed out that Alexander Semin, who hasn't played in the NHL since the 2015/16 season, is still being paid by the Hurricanes this season.

The Hurricanes owe Semin $2.33 million this season, but that's surprisingly not the highest cap hit for the 2018/19 season for players being paid by teams they don't play for anymore.

Some of these players are on the free agent market while others are with another team, but the one thing they have in common is that they'll get paid by other teams they don't play for this upcoming season.

Here are the 8 biggest cap hits for the 18/19 season for players being paid by teams they don't play for:

8. Derick Brassard, $2 million

Brassard never played a game for the Golden Knights, but Vegas retained some of his salary in a three-team trade that sent him from the Sens to the Pens.

7. Paul Martin, $2,016,667 million

The San Jose Sharks bought out Paul Martin in June and the 37-year-old hasn't signed with another team.

6. Tyler Ennis, $2,166,667 million

The Leafs signed Tyler Ennis to a one-year deal in July and he'll make more than triple of what he signed for in Toronto from the Wild who bought Ennis out right before free agency.

5. Alexander Semin, $2,333,333 million

As we mentioned before, the Hurricanes are paying Semin again this season.  He hasn't played for Carolina since the 2014/15 season.

4. Alex Burrows, $2.5 million

Burrows won't be getting the full $2.5 million this season, but the cap hit for the Sens is $2.5 million for the recently retired Burrows.

3. Brooks Orpik, $2.5 million

The Capitals threw in Orpik as part of the Philipp Grubauer deal to the Avalanche.  Colorado then bought him out and Orpik signed back with the Capitals.

2. Scott Hartnell, $3 million

The Blue Jackets bought Hartnell out in 2017 and although he's a free agent at the moment, he'll count for a pretty penny against the cap for Columbus.

1. Dan Girardi, $3,611,111 million

The former Ranger has found himself a new home in Tampa and is getting paid by the Rangers at the same time.
