The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t had too many threats on the base paths in the past couple seasons, with only Kevin Pillar breaking double digits last season.

Well now you know why.

Obviously there is some strategy involved, but it also has to have something to do with how slow their team is. MLB’s Statcast website has some charts depicting the fastest and slowest players in the MLB. Jose Bautista, Justin Smoak and Troy Tulowitzki all fall at the very bottom of their lists.

These are the speeds for every Blue Jays position player:

LF - Carrera: 28.1 ft/s
CF - Pillar: 27.8 ft/s
2B - Travis: 27.2 ft/s
SS - Goins: 26.7 ft/s
LF - Pearce: 26.6 ft/s
C - Martin: 26.2 ft/s
3B - Donaldson: 26.0 ft/s
SS - Tulowitzki: 25.4 ft/s
RF - Bautista: 25.3 ft/s
DH - Morales: 24.7 ft/s
1B - Smoak: 24.6 ft/s

The fastest player in the league? Billy Hamilton at 30.1 f/s. The slowest is Albert Pujols at 15.9 ft/s.
