Coming into the 2018/19 NHL post-season, the St. Louis Blues had a chance to erase themselves from a group of teams that no sports franchise ever wants to be apart of: they've never won a game in a championship round.

Game 2 of the Stanley Cup needed overtime to solve the winner, and it was Blues defenceman who played the unlikely hero.

With the win, the Blues have officially registered their first win in franchise history.

The only team that now has never won a game in the Stanley Cup Final is the Florida Panthers, who were swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 Stanley Cup Final, their only appearance in club history that happened to be in their third season of existence.

Yikes.

The stat only applies to teams who have played in the Stanley Cup Final. Prior to 2019, the Blues had three appearances -- 1968, 1969, 1970 -- but were swept twice by the Montreal Canadiens and once by the Boston Bruins, respectively. The Panthers have made the playoffs in only five of their 25 seasons since coming into the league in 1993-94, and last made the post-season in 2015-16 when they were eliminated in the first-round by John Tavares and the New York Islanders.
