The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that is under constant scrutiny, so whoever is the mastermind behind what they do will always receive a lot of attention from the hockey world.

That’s what made the announcement of a Leafs new GM such a big deal.

The team surprised some and confirmed the beliefs of many when they announced early Friday morning that Kyle Dubas would be the 17th GM in team history. Dubas has been the assistant GM of the team along with Mark Hunter since 2014 and it had initially seemed as though he was being groomed for the position from day one.

Mark Hunter made things interesting, but the team ultimately chose Dubas and Leafs fans reacted mostly with excitement while many others focused on the fact that the Leafs new GM is younger than Patrick Marleau.

Dubas will have his work cut out for him. There a lot of expectations on a Toronto team that has been growing faster that anticipated. It’s only going to increase the pressure now that another Canadian team that is often compared to Toronto has now advanced to their conference final.
