LeBron James is the hottest free agent of the coming NBA summer, which, of course, is only natural. You couldn’t name a team in the league that wouldn’t have him if presented the opportunity. His demand appears to extend beyond the NBA, however, and even beyond basketball.

Yes, it’s bold, but the Jacksonville Icemen, ECHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets, are throwing their hat into the ring for the LeBron sweepstakes. If (when!) LeBron passes by this billboard in Jacksonville, he’ll see a brand new door in front of him:

Now, yes, this is obviously just some fun from a creative marketing department. LeBron has no reason to leave basketball, one could argue. But, did Michael Jordan not give minor league baseball a go? Is the opportunity to follow in Jordan’s footsteps, but do it better, something that can just be overlooked out of pocket? It sure would make the GOAT conversation that much more interesting, we’ll say that much.

Who can say if LeBron has ever played hockey, or even knows how to skate, but it isn’t hard to imagine the guy laying dudes out as a defenceman, or making use of that passing vision as a playmaking centre. If he can get the fundamentals down pat, LeBron probably wouldn’t be half bad at hockey. Future Jet!

So it goes for generational athletes, most of whom could probably compete in multiple sports if they ever chose to put the work in.
