The Toronto Maple Leafs have been busy in free agency.

On the first day of free agency, the Leafs moved quickly to sign TJ Brodie and Wayne Simmonds, and then Kyle Dubas capped things off with the rather surprising additions of Zach Bogosian and Joe Thornton.

On Saturday, the Leafs announced jersey numbers for their new signings. Fans were especially wondering what number Jumbo Joe would wear, with his longtime No. 19 currently worn by Jason Spezza.

His choice... did not disappoint.

Of course, the No. 97 jersey is mostly associated with Connor McDavid right now, but Thornton has worn 97 in international play, most likely as a reference to his membership in the 1997 NHL draft class.

Thornton is the first Leaf to wear No. 97, while Brodie will be the first to wear No. 78.

Additionally, the Leafs also revealed that Jimmy Vesey will wear No. 26, most recently worn by Nick Shore.
