The Detroit Red Wings are well out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference so the remainder of the regular season will most likely be a time for them to develop some of their young pieces on the roster by giving them as much time in the NHL as possible.
Rookie defenceman Dennis Cholowski got off to a hot start for Detroit this season as he recorded eight points in his first 11 NHL games, but he’s failed to earn a point since January 11 and owns a minus-20 rating on the season. With that being said, he’s earned a spot in the press box as a healthy scratch the past two games, but Thursday night’s scratch was an awkward one.
That’s right, Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators wasn’t just any ordinary regular season game, it was Dennis Cholowski Bobblehead Night, only he wasn’t on the ice to see the giveaway up close against the glass.
To add even more salt to the wound, Cholowski will celebrate his 21st birthday tomorrow…
