One of the best parts about the winter season is the major increase in local hockey rinks thanks to the creation of outdoor hockey rinks in parks, on random bodies of water and in backyards.

With winter still building and the temperatures still expected to drop over the next few months, there’s no better time to get out on a local outdoor rink than right now and the Rockford IceHogs took full advantage of the weather on Tuesday night.

As a special treat for their fans, the IceHogs players got to take a trip back in time to their younger days as they moved their daily practice outdoors and practiced in front of their fans at the Riverside Ice Arena.

There’s just something about playing some puck outdoors under the big lights.
