One of the ways for golfers to earn their PGA Tour card is by making a name for themselves on the Web.com Tour.

This past weekend at the WinCo Foods Portland Open, the Web.com Tour’s final regular season event, Kevin Dougherty came an inch away from earning his PGA Tour card. Literally.

After scoring a birdie on the 17th hole, Dougherty needed one more birdie on the final hole of the day and the PGA Tour card would be all his. However, he failed to sink the 25-foot putt as it ended up stopping an inch short of the hole and his PGA Tour card.

“I mean it was pretty dead centre, I thought. It had the line,” Dougherty told Golf Digest. “I thought it might end up a hair short. But it just missed a hair left.”

“I just have to keep the momentum going. Same mindset, same routine, we’ll get it done.”

Dougherty still has a shot to earn his PGA Tour card if he can roll through the Web.com Tour finals where 25 players will earn their cards. He just needs to forget about that near miss and capitalize the next time he gets a shot.
