Another World Series celebration, another damaged World Series trophy.

On Thursday night, Washington Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle shared a picture of the Commissioner’s trophy with at least two flags out of place. Doolittle included a review of the trophy in his tweet and it definitely helps make sense of why it was probably damaged in the first place.

A couple of things here: 1) Doolittle might have the coolest Twitter name right now, and 2) this is probably what happens when you try to drink out of it AND try to wear it like a hat. Those poles are fragile and need to be handled with care!

The Nats joined some elite company with the damage, as the Red Sox’ hardware was harmed just a year ago. Except you can’t blame the team… just some drunk idiot fan at their parade.

And before them, the Astros’ experienced some bumps and bruises of its own.

The following is an excerpt from the Houston Chronicle:

Halfway through dinner during “One Great Night in November,” the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s high-powered, mens-only fundraiser, the table collapsed that held the 2017 Commissioner’s Trophy, which Astros owner Jim Crane had brought to the MFAH to give the evening a celebratory start.

The trophy was swiftly placed back onto the table, but it did not survive the fall unscathed. Suddenly, men in tuxes were giggling about how “we’ll just have to win another one” while a cohort of large men with earpieces assembled around the trophy like bodyguards.

But everyone could still see it: Some of the flags on the trophy were noticeably bent out of shape.

Turns out the Cubs’ suffered the same fate a year before according to the Boston Globe, too! Maybe we should just face the facts… this trophy is in need of an upgrade.
