In the world of sports, we’re constantly trying to see things through a different lens. Whether that’s ultra-slow motion picture, 360-degree cameras, stat animations that embed right over top of plays… you never know what to expect next.

Saying that, sometimes it can be cool to take things back to basics, and see sports through the lowest-tech perspective available. For Canadian artist Dan Pietens, he just needs two tools to create that; a pencil and a piece of paper.

On an Instagram account that first posted back on June 4, 2020, Pietens features a wide array of pencil drawings. It doesn’t take long to notice a few themes. He likes dogs, and he likes sports.

Seeing as we are BarDown, we’re going to focus on sports. Take a look at some of the art Pietens has created, including lots of hockey players because, after all, he’s Canadian.
