There hasn’t been much for New Jersey Devils fans to be excited about over the past few years, but that all changed after a hectic offseason.

This past June, the team selected Swiss Phenom Nico Hischier with the Number-one pick in the 2017 entry draft and acquired skilled Swedish forward Marcus Johansson from the Washington Capitals. Additionally, they traded for Mirco Mueller and a fifth round pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for second and fourth round picks. Needless to say, there are higher expectations in the Garden State for the upcoming campaign.

In an effort to get some of their fans back on board, the Devils offered them a chance to win free season tickets if they managed to get at least 9,450 retweets. Today, a fan surpassed that number, and after letting the team know via Twitter, they had no choice but to stay true to their word.

The organization probably didn’t think anyone would come close, but there it is. It’s not like their requested number was low, so good on Donnelly for reaching his goal.

According to the Devil’s website, the cheapest season ticket for a full season is a 200-level corner seat for $1,238, while the priciest one is $15,000. It’s rare to see a fan own a single ticket to a game, so things could get a bit lonely at times for Donnelly. Still, this is a prize anyone would be fired up about capturing.

Can you imagine what people would do if the same opportunity was given in Canada?
