So close, yet so far for the Men’s German Olympic hockey team.

After holding onto a late lead and having a power play with time running out, the Germans allowed the Olympic Athletes of Russia to tie the contest with 56 seconds remaining in regulation. After a quick flood, the OAR received a power play after a controversial high-sticking call on forward Patrick Reimer and capitalized on a blast from Kirill Kaprizov.

The German team seemed to be in good spirits following the match, as they took photos with their opponents and were seen smiling with their medals. One can’t help but feel bad for some of their fans, though, considering how close they were to witnessing one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history. One spectator’s reaction to a OAR goal was caught at the perfect moment and the look of pure disgust could be seen written all over his face.

Heartbreak city. On another note, can we acknowledge that mullet for a quick second? It looks identical to the one New Zealand figure skater Peter Michael was rocking during the games.

He also kind of looks like Braden Holtby- random thought.

The fan has every right to be upset, but at least his country still had a strong showing at the Games. Germany finished with a total of 31 medals, the silver being the country’s last in Pyeongchang. Despite the loss, the 2018 Winter Olympics was a huge step forward for the German hockey program and there's still plenty to be proud of.
