Even the most dedicated supporter of Canadian basketball could be forgiven for not knowing who Luguentz Dort is. The Montreal native was undrafted in last year’s NBA draft and signed a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, spending most of his time so far this season in the G League.

In his first career NBA start on Monday against the Houston Rockets, Dort was tasked with guarding James Harden. Not an easy ask! But, believe it or not, Dort played a huge role in holding Harden to the worst 3-point shooting game of his career — 1-for-17 (5.9 percent) from distance.

The 16 3-point misses tie the NBA record, set five other times by Harden and once by Damon Stoudamire. Sheesh.

He got the refs to whistle an offensive foul against Harden! And we thought that wasn't allowed in the NBA...

DORT GOT IN HARDEN'S HEAD.

Dort still has a ways to go if he wants to catch up to his Canadian teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but this is definitely the kind of performance that can turn some eyes. While undrafted, some draft databases considered him as a fringe first-round prospect, and he was the MVP of the BioSteel All-Canadian game in back-to-back years before college ball.

In all, Dort finished with eight points in 32 minutes, although his defensive contributions made much more of an impact on the Thunder’s 112-107 win. This is just the 20-year-old’s ninth NBA game.
