The stick market in the NHL is currently being dominated, as only 6 companies are represented in the NHL. Soon it could be 7 as the TOVI stick is being looked at for NHL approval, according to Sportico.

You might be asking, “What’s with the diamond holes in the blade?”

Turns out that the perforations in the blade reduces the weight of the stick, and allows for less drag while shooting. All of these features keep the stick around the same weight as the traditional sticks but they’re more durable.

The TOVI website says that the blade is made entirely of carbon fiber, whereas other blades have a foam core. It’s also better not to use hockey tape as that would cover up the diamond holes and restrict the airflow.

Mark Recchi, assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins said that he saw better puck control when using the stick.

If the stick does get NHL approval, we’ll be keeping an eye out to see which players will adopt this aerodynamic blade.
