Recently, we posted an article/video praising rent-a-goalies as the unsung heroes of hockey, but they’re not the only ones we’re nominating – this time, it’s the Team Rep.

The team rep, especially on rec-league teams, gets very little credit for all the work they put in to make sure that everyone has fun. First and foremost there’s the actual initiative to sign people up for the team, then there’s giving people rides, filling water bottles, placing deposits (sometimes before their teammates even pay) and basically bringing everything you need to have a good time.

We’re not sure how they have the energy – maybe they are starting their day with our sponsor on this post, Kellogg’s® Vector®. Vector® products can help give you the fuel to get through your daily activities and is perfect for the unsung heroes of hockey.

However they do it, here are three reasons they are the true unsung hero of hockey:

Bringing the Pucks

Listen, we’re not playing 3-5 times a week anymore, so for most people it can help a lot to handle the puck a little bit in warmups. There’s nothing worse than touching the puck for the first time in 2 weeks with a wide open cage after your line dangled through three players – you know you’re going to whiff on it.

If you have a good team rep, they have plenty of pucks every warm up and the whole team is ready to go come game time.

Making Sure You Have Enough People

At this point in your life, everyone has their own things going on and their first thought isn’t always to let their hockey team know they might miss a game. Luckily for the team, a good team rep usually checks in with people to make sure they’ll be attending (especially the goalie). Nobody wants to play with one sub, including the team you’re playing against (you kind of just feel bad beating a team with no bench).

Everyone his the team rep to thank when you have enough people to play every game.

Filling the Water Bottles

Along the lines of not playing hockey as much, we don’t have the energy we used to, so water is as important as ever. Only, there’s no coach, trainer or parents to fill up your bottle for you. Let’s get real, most people are just not going to bring one at all, but you can always depend on the team rep to have a whole case of bottles to keep the team hydrated.

Shoutout to all the Team Reps out there and to ours in particular, you’re the best Luca!
