The New York Rangers won the first pick of the 2020 NHL entry draft fair and square on Monday night, but the process didn't come without its share of drama.

As the balls were presented before entering the lottery machine, the masked employee from Ernst and Young accidentally dropped the Rangers ball. A few minutes later, that same ball was chosen as the lucky winner. Yes, of course this sparked speculation that the whole thing was rigged, and Rangers defenceman Tony DeAngelo even (jokingly) threw in an accusation right before the balls started spinning. Well, that tweet didn't age well because he and his teammates hit the jackpot right after.

Tony... you should have seen this one coming man! Fans were poppin' off in the thread:

And some people actually seemed to agree with him! Or at least joked about it?

The Rangers were so, so close to not getting their way. If you take a closer look, it appears as though the Toronto Maple Leafs quite literally hit the post during the process.

In reality, the lottery obviously was not rigged and Tony admitted he was just kidding, but the entire process of how this team ended up with the first pick is pretty remarkable. Have fun watching this guy for the next 20 years, Rangers fans!!!!
