Welp, so comes an end to the vaunted Leafs “Core 4,” that in the end was unable to advance further than one round. While Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and John Tavares will try to run it back once again next year, the familiar #16 will no longer be on the Leafs bench.

Mitch Marner is moving on after the Leafs completed a sign-and-trade to send him to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Nicolas Roy.

Marner’s time in Toronto could be classified as a roller coaster. His wizardry on the ice will be remembered by Leafs fans for years to come, but his shortcomings in playoffs will linger with an equal stubbornness. He was loved, he was hated – he was essentially the personification of what the Leafs have been over the near-decade that he suited up in blue and white.

So how are Leafs fans feeling about Marner’s departure? Our own Jesse Pollock took to the streets of Toronto to gather goodbye messages from Leafs Nation.

As you may expect, some fans gushed over his time with the team, others apologized for the hate and blamed the whole team rather than the individual. As you also may expect, there was a lot of fans that did not appreciate the way he went about his departure.
