The next time you’re driving through Dauphin, Manitoba, look out for “Barry Trotz Way.”

The Stanley Cup-winning coach and Winnipeg native, who’s now the bench boss for the New York Islanders, had his special day with the cup on Wednesday in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Allen Dowhan, mayor of the city that has a population of roughly 8,500 people, announced that Trotz would be getting a street named after him on ”Barry Trotz Day in Dauphin.”

In what seemed like a solid portion of the city showing up, Trotz brought the Stanley Cup to a senior home where he some of the specifications of the cup were discussed, including a fun fact that it can contain 14 beers! You didn’t know that, now did you?

Then, Trotz and his family rode in a float accompanied by his family, Mounties, a firetruck, and a special Ukrainian band as well as Dauphinites in Ukrainian costumes. Old school muskets rifles were brought out, and Trotz even got to fire one off!

Trotz suited up for the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL (Junior-A) in his final year of junior eligibility before taking a job as an assistant coach and GM with the club, so it’s no surprise that Dauphin showed Trotz some love back for his years honing his coaching craft with the Kings.

Over $75,000 was raised on the day from a photoshoot with the Stanley Cup at $2 per person, as well as the money generated from raffle draws and a cookout.  Trotz generously matched with all proceeds going back into the community.
